My Mr and I celebrated 7 years of holding hands this October long weekend. We wanted to do something special but we didn’t have long to organise it. I was searching around online for something that would fit the bill and I came across the Sydney Picnic Co. I’d been wanting to visit Wendy’s Secret Garden in Lavender Bay and a picnic in the beautiful setting sounded appropriately romantic (read: cheesy).
Simon and Natalie are the clever clogs behind Sydney Picnic Co and their stunning picnics are made by hand to order and are outrageously delicious. Their picnic options are mouth-watering. You can have a look at the menu here (if drool gets in your keyboard don’t say I didn’t warn you!). We opted for the Italian because CHEESE. Out of all the scrummy things in our basket, we loved the Italian buffalo mozzarella best. It came with chargrilled zucchini, asparagus, lemon and mint. Gah. Yum.
Sydney Picnic Co put the noms together but they also provide cutlery, cups and napkins. You just need to bring something to drink and a rug (if you’re not perched like royalty at a table in Wendy’s Secret Garden).
We picked up our noms with no fuss and headed over to Lavender Bay. The stunning garden lovingly created by Wendy Whitely is now cared for by local volunteers and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. You may think “that doesn’t sound very secret if you’re blabbing about it here and I can find it on Google” but it really is a place where you feel a world away in a secret spot. There are nooks and crannies everywhere with tables, chairs and little sunny spots. We wouldn’t hve thought there were so many people there that day but a meander around the windy paths revealed a host of secret garden dwellers reading the paper, relaxing with a drink, dipping into eskies and catching up on the goss. It really was wonderful.
Naturally, I took a few snaps but you’ll notice an absense of food shots… it was too yummy ok?! It disappeared a little too quickly for a photo. I’m ok with that. Priorities people!
Well, enjoy the pics and I’ll see you in my next post.
